June's Strong Sun Moon

With the solstice celebration of Litha and summer now in full swing, it makes perfect sense that June's full moon is dubbed the "Strong Sun Moon" in several folkloric cultures. As mentioned in last week's lifestyle blog, Cultivate Your Year With the Summer Solstice, we should use this month's firey energies to practice self-discipline, work on decision making, and to focus on our goals.

Crops are flourishing, flowers are blooming, and we get those lovely extended hours of sunlight these days. This is the best time to take action and to bring your magic and wishes to fruition! Spend time outdoors, plant your feet in the grass, and ground yourself. Meditate in the daylight with the drapes wide open and really pay attention to your five minutes of daily mindfulness.

Here are some witchily-useful tidbits and correspondences for June and the Strong Sun Moon.

Stones: Topaz, Citrine, Labradorite

Plants/ Herbs: St. John's Wort, Mugwort, Chamomile, Calendula (Marigold), Honeysuckle

Celebratory traditions: Bonfires, singing, family gathering (bbq, anyone?), honoring mothers and fertility.

Incense: Orange, Frankincense & Myrrh, Wisteria, Saffron

Food & Drink: Mead, Yellow Vegetables, Carrots, Grapefruit, Oranges, Honey, Fresh Bread

Since Isis and Persephone currently rule, be sure to hone in on that divine feminine energy.

It's time to balance both hard work and play; buckling down and learning how to relax. Enjoy your midsummer with childlike wonder; absorb the sun's rays and rededicate yourself to nature and your goals!

The Attic Witch
